Clos de Gallur Black

Limited Edition

General Information

Appellation of Origin: Valencia. Vall dels Alforins
Type of wine: Red Premium
Grape varieties: Shiraz, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon from Finca Casa Gallur.
Alcohol content: 14%
Terroir Characteristics: The Casa Gallur Estate features very arid, limestone-rich soils and a continental climate with Mediterranean influence. It is strictly dry-farmed and experiences significant temperature variation. The estate is located in the municipality of Caudete, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, in one of the most inland areas of the so-called “Valencian Tuscany,” where rainfall is even scarcer, resulting in wines of remarkable concentration. Although Caudete currently belongs to the province of Albacete, it historically formed part of the Kingdom of Valencia. After the War of Spanish Succession in 1707, Caudete was declared rebellious and annexed to the Crown of Castile. Due to its location within the “Vall dels Alforins” and its historical ties, the Casa Gallur Estate is considered an exceptional terroir, authorized to produce wines under the Protected Designation of Origin Valencia.

Elaboration

Clos de Gallur Black is the result of a meticulous winemaking process in which only the finest raw materials have been selected at every stage. It begins at the Casa Gallur Estate in Caudete, where only the best vines of Tempranillo, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon are chosen, and during harvest, only the finest grape clusters are handpicked.
For the aging of this limited edition, oak barrels from the forests of Allier were used—specifically from Radoux and Hermitage, two of the most prestigious cooperages in France. Only the four barrels that stood out the most during tasting were bottled. These very special barrels impart an extraordinary complexity and character to Clos de Gallur Black. The wine continues to evolve and mature in the bottle.

Tasting notes

Very high aromatic intensity, with notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, and freshly roasted coffee. The fruit appears fresh and at its optimal ripeness, preserving hints of lavender flowers still clinging to the stem, with memories of lollipop and cherry pit, and a subtle touch of cassis. There’s a balsamic sensation with menthol and resinous nuances. Hints of red berry yogurt and melted caramel emerge. The wine evolves, grows, and expresses itself with increasing complexity with each swirl, revealing a noble character reminiscent of Bordeaux. On the palate, it is broad and structured, with a sandy texture of polished, elegant tannins taking center stage. Acidity and warmth are seamlessly interwoven, supporting each other. Decidedly Mediterranean, it is flavorful and powerful without being overwhelming or strident. It hints at great potential for bottle aging. Serious, elegant, intense, and intriguing. Its lingering finish on the palate is nearly eternal.
