THE 2019 “SUPERWINES” GUIDE WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY JOAN C. MARTÍN, (GOURMAND PRIZE 2018), CHOOSE HOYA DE CADENAS RESERVE FROM BODEGAS VICENTE GANDÍA AS THE BEST WINE IN TERMS OF VALUE FOR MONEY IN SPAIN.
The “Superwines” Guide gathers those references that can be found on supermarket shelves whose price does not exceed 15 euros. There are more than 900 wines tasted by the author Joan C. Martín who is personally responsible for buying them in supermarkets throughout the Spanish territory. As with every year, once the guide has been published, the publisher chooses the six best rated wines to submit them to a round of tastings in the cities of Málaga, València, Barcelona and Madrid. In the course of these tastings in which a selection of journalists, bloggers and professional tasters participate, a competition is established to determine which of the chosen wines will be the Superwine of the Year. This year the selection was made up of a young red wine from Rioja Alavesa, a red wine from Navarra, a red wine from Tierra de Extremadura, a red oak wine from Alicante, a Catalan cava brut nature and Hoya de Cadenas red wine from the DO Utiel-Requena, which was the winner.
According to Javier Gandía the Managing Director of Bodegas Vicente Gandía, “This award is recognition of the excellent progression in the quality of DO Utiel Requena wines, which now includes the fruit of many years of dedication and commitment to viticulture quality, led by great winemakers such as Luís García Severino, author of Hoya de Cadenas Reserva and many other iconic wines of the Utiel Requena Designation of Origin such as Generación 1, Bo or Ceremonia. Vicente Gandía was a pioneer in producing premium wines in this Denomination of Origin and now, with this type of recognition, time has shown that we were right”.
Hoya de Cadenas Reserva is clean looking and has a deep intensity with red-vermilion tints. The nose reveals complex aromas of ripe fruit and vanilla. A soft and velvety wine, with a very fine and elegant finish. Its fantastic price has been a determining factor in obtaining this recognition.
