At Vicente Gandía, we continue to maintain our growing commitment to sustainability and transparency, which has led us to release the winery’s third Sustainability Report. We present this document that we have prepared with so much love and dedication to highlight everything we have achieved during the year 2023, as well to indicate the challenges we have encountered along the way to meet the established sustainability objectives.
Sustainability is not only a trend for Vicente Gandía, but rather it has been part of what we are for decades and whose principles are deeply rooted in the wine sector. In addition, since the implementation of our IMPULSE Program, we have taken a further step by working towards achieving more ambitious objectives in this area.
We work on this ambition without losing sight of our goal as a company to continue betting on highly expressive wines, highlighting in 2023 the release of Ceramic Sauvignon Blanc, to establish ourselves among the best wineries in the world. The journey towards sustainability is a complex path, in which we must be constant to move forward firmly, so the enthusiasm and motivation of the progress achieved drives us to continue working to improve our performance.
An example of this is the achievement of the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP) certification, created by and for wineries, specific to the wine industry, which allows the sustainability of an organization to be demonstrated in a solid way, based on compliance with strict requirements in four fundamental pillars: environmental, social, economic and governance. Its achievement has driven us to develop important advances in the matter and, in addition, guides us towards continuous improvement in the different areas. Therefore, obtaining this certificate represents a recognition of the winery’s track record in terms of sustainability.
Also worth to mention is the obtaining of the “S – Sustainable Tourism” certificate, awarded by the Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality (ICTE) to our wine tourism project developed at Finca Hoya de Cadenas. This seal recognizes the monitoring, performance, compliance and effectiveness of the sustainability plan carried out, as well as our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Another of our most relevant initiatives in 2023 has been the launch of “Som Albufera”, our new Social Responsibility project, consisting of the development of a series of actions focused on supporting the care and enhancement of this natural space so important for Valencia. Our objective is to disseminate, conserve and protect the environmental values of L’Albufera, integrating the gastronomy of this area with the winery’s wines.
This has also been a year of changes, where the incorporation of Diego Morcillo as the new head of the Vicente Gandía wine structure stands out. Behind all these achievements is the perseverance, vehemence and effort of our great human team. We cannot forget the support of all the interest groups that continually collaborate so that we continue to improve together and to whom we make all our progress known through this document.
Finally, this has also been a sad year for the Gandía family due to the loss of the president of the winery, Don José María Gandía Perales. We are left with his great legacy during his long and successful career after managing the winery for more than five decades. He has been a key person for the development of quality Valencian wine, making it possible for us to be a large winery, but with soul.
