The ‘alma mater’ of Valencian wine leaves an impressive legacy after his long and successful career leading the largest winery in the Valencian Community.
After almost 140 years of history, Bodegas Vicente Gandia lives its saddest day after the death of its president, Mr. José María Gandia, on Thursday, July 6, at the age of 82. Member of the third generation of the Gandía family D. José María led the company for more than five decades and was a key person in the development of quality Valencian wine.
D. José María Gandía leaves us an impressive legacy for being the promoter in 1971 of the first bottling line in the Valencian Community, being a pioneer in the sector by creating well-known brands such as Castillo de Liria, Hoya de Cadenas or Ceremonia. His great career at the head of Bodegas Vicente Gandía was recognized with his inclusion in the Great Order of ‘Caballeros del Vino’ in the United Kingdom in 1996. His leadership capacity and innovative vision throughout his long career have always been focused on the improvement in the quality and the positioning of Valencian wines and this has been transmitted to his successors who have taken over and have developed this philosophy, making Bodegas Vicente Gandia a benchmark for Spanish wine worldwide.
