Diego Morcillo Fortea will be from today the new head of the winemaking structure of Vicente Gandía, assuming the technical direction of the winery. Recognised with the national award for best oenologist of the year by FECOES in 2018, Diego Morcillo has an extensive professional career dedicated to oenology and viticulture in important wineries nationwide.
Born in Requena, Diego Morcillo has extensive knowledge of international and native grape varieties, especially the Bobal. The use of ageing materials such as ceramic jars has made it possible for his wines to have their own personality and style throughout his career. With his incorporation, Bodegas Vicente Gandía renews its commitment to its new oenological style in which it manages to launch iconic wine references on the market that position Valencian wine in never before achieved quotas.
During his first months, Diego Morcillo has the invaluable help of Pepe Hidalgo, the current technical director of Bodegas Vicente Gandía, who will undertake a new professional project from February onwards, taking a radical turn in his career in search of new oenological challenges.
Javier Gandía, General Manager of Bodegas Vicente Gandía: “With the incorporation of Diego Morcillo we continue our commitment to the production of iconic wines, continuing the work started in his day by Luis García Severino and consolidated by Pepe Hidalgo, to whom the winery wishes to express its gratitude for his years of service and for the mark that his work has left on the winery“.
