The technical director of Vicente Gandia Winery joined the company at the beginning of 2019. During his second harvest at the Hoya the Cadenas State, he has highlighted the Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc varieties.
Hidalgo has an amazing professional background in the wine industry and during his first year at Vicente Gandia Winery, he has signed his first range of Bobal premium wines. This year we are sure that he will surprise us again.
- What are the results of the harvest so far?
In this moment we only have harvested Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel, Malvasia and some Macabeo. The results are spectacular: perfect aroma, good alcohol content and the grapes are very healthy.
- How many kilograms of grapes collected?
We are in the first third of the vintage and we have around 3.5 million Kg. We still have a lot of grapes to cut but we are waiting for its optimum point of maturity to harvest it.
- What variety has stood out in quality at the Hoya de Cadenas State?
I would not dare to say any, because each one has its peculiarities, but I’m in love with our Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs. We will give a lot to talk about with these qualities, I’m sure about that.
- What can you tell us about the quality of the harvest?
Magnificent, a healthy harvest, with good sugar content and balanced acidity. Excellent fruit to make excellent wines.
- Will the quality of Vicente Gandía wines be as good as usual?
In the winery we are always saying that: “we won’t go one step backwards, not even to get a run-up”. Year after year Vicente Gandia winery has been coming through as we strive every day to improve and this year will be no less.
- Has the harvest been staggered? How?
The technical means of the winery allow us to harvest up to four varieties at the same time. We are not looking to binge on grapes but we are ready to absorb peaks of 500,000 kg a day. Rather than than seeking to work in stages, we seek to harvest each parcel in the perfect moment with the greatest affection, in the end our wines noticed it.
- Covid-19 pandemic has complicated the harvest. What measures have been taken?
These are difficult times for all of us, we are taking the same measures that we have been taking since the beginning of the crisis. Mask, social distancing, temperature measurement, work shifts and hand hygiene. We have reinforced the shifts with an extra person just in case extraordinary measures had to be taken. The truth is that the whole Vicente Gandía team will carry out the harvest ahead and with a goot note.
