We celebrate the International Day against Climate Change with facts

Every October 24th, International Climate Change Day is commemorated, a day that invites us to reflect on the impact of our actions on the planet and take concrete steps to mitigate its effects. At Bodegas Vicente Gandía, this reflection translates into commitment and action.

Why is it important to talk about climate change in the wine industry?

Climate change directly affects viticulture: from grape quality to crop cycles, including water availability and environmental biodiversity. As a winery with over 140 years of history, we understand that sustainability is not an option, but a responsibility.

That’s why, at Vicente Gandía, we’ve taken a firm step toward transparency and continuous improvement: we’ve officially verified our Carbon Footprint.

What is the Carbon Footprint and why do we measure it?

The Carbon Footprint represents the total amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted directly or indirectly by our activities. It is measured in tons of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) and allows us to identify the main sources of emissions and establish effective reduction plans.

Measuring it is the first step toward a more sustainable, efficient, and environmentally friendly winery.

Carbon Footprint 2024: Verified Results

Thanks to our IMPULSE plan and collaboration with Applus+ Certification, we have obtained official verification of our emissions at our two main centers:

  • Chiva Center: 1.103,16 tCO₂e
  • Hoya de Cadenas Center: 493,46 tCO₂e
  • Total verified footprint 2024: 1.596,62 tCO₂e

This report has been prepared in accordance with the methodologies of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and meets the requirements of ISO 14064.

What now? Downsize!

At Vicente Gandía, measuring our Carbon Footprint is not an end, but rather the beginning of a journey toward a more sustainable winery. Following official verification of our emissions, we have outlined a reduction strategy for the 2025–2027 period, with the goal of reducing our total footprint by 20% in 2027 compared to the base year of 2024.

This plan is based on a comprehensive vision that encompasses all aspects of our business, from production to energy management, and is aligned with the principles of efficiency, innovation, and respect for the environment.

Sustainability isn’t just a goal; it’s part of our identity as a winery. Every step we take is designed to generate a positive impact, both on the environment and the surrounding community.

How can you contribute?

Climate change is a global challenge that requires everyone’s involvement. Here are some ideas for how you can contribute from home:

  • Choose local and seasonal products
  • Reduce the use of plastics
  • Bet on renewable energies
  • Recycle and reuse
  • Support brands committed to the environment

At Vicente Gandía, we celebrate the International Day Against Climate Change with action, reaffirming our commitment to responsible viticulture. We will continue working to ensure that every step we take contributes to a more sustainable future, both inside and outside the winery.
